CHAS Accreditation Renewed

BAS Frames has renewed its CHAS accreditation for 2026–27. The certificate runs to 11 September 2027 under membership number 182918, and carries SSIP Approved status as a Contractor under CDM.

For a main contractor assessing us, that is the part worth reading twice. CHAS is a member of the Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) forum, and SSIP members mutually recognise each other’s assessments. A valid CHAS certificate satisfies the health and safety element of most pre-qualification questionnaires without the client repeating the exercise.

What the assessment actually covers

CHAS Standard is a health and safety pre-qualification assessment against the SSIP Core Criteria and UK health and safety legislation. In practice the assessment looks at the documents a competent subcontractor should already hold and be able to produce on request:

  • The written health and safety policy and who is accountable for it
  • Risk assessment and method statement procedures, and evidence that they are used rather than filed
  • Training and competence records for operatives, including plant and work at height
  • Accident and incident reporting, and what happens after an incident
  • Insurance cover and subcontractor management arrangements

It is a documentary assessment of capability, not an inspection of a particular site on a particular day. We say that plainly because the distinction matters when a client is deciding what a certificate proves. It proves the system exists and stands up to scrutiny. The site record is a separate argument, and we make it with the projects themselves.

What it does not cover

CHAS Standard is health and safety pre-qualification. It is not a quality-management certification, not a financial assessment, and not a product approval. Anyone telling you a CHAS certificate covers those things is stretching it. Our material traceability and the tested systems we install are documented separately, in the supply and installation scopes.

Why we hold it alongside SMAS Worksafe

We hold both CHAS and SMAS Worksafe SSIP. That looks redundant until you have sat in the pre-qualification stage of two schemes at once. Different clients and different framework agreements name different schemes, and although SSIP members recognise each other’s assessments, some procurement teams still ask for the specific scheme they use. Holding both removes an argument from the front end of a job, which is where programme time is cheapest to save.

How to verify it

Certificates are only worth what their verification is. Ours can be checked directly:

  • Scheme: CHAS (Veriforce CHAS), an SSIP founder member
  • Level: CHAS Standard
  • Membership number: 182918
  • SSIP status: Approved — Contractor [CDM]
  • Legal entity: BAS Constructions Ltd t/a BAS Frames, Companies House 10504807
  • Valid until: 11 September 2027

Questions we get asked about the certificate

Is BAS Frames CHAS accredited?

Yes. BAS Constructions Ltd, trading as BAS Frames, holds CHAS Standard under membership number 182918, with SSIP Approved status as a Contractor under CDM. The current certificate is valid to 11 September 2027.

What does CHAS Standard assess?

Health and safety capability against the SSIP Core Criteria and UK health and safety legislation: the written policy, risk assessment and method statement procedures, training and competence records, accident reporting, insurance cover and subcontractor management.

Does a CHAS certificate satisfy SSIP pre-qualification?

In most cases yes. CHAS is a founder member of the Safety Schemes in Procurement forum, and SSIP members mutually recognise each other’s assessments, so a valid CHAS certificate usually satisfies the health and safety element of a pre-qualification questionnaire without a repeat assessment. Some procurement teams still specify the scheme they use, which is why BAS Frames holds both CHAS and SMAS Worksafe.

Does CHAS cover quality management or financial standing?

No. CHAS Standard is health and safety pre-qualification. Material traceability, tested system references and Building Safety Act documentation are held and evidenced separately.

How can a client verify the certificate?

By the membership number, 182918, held in the name BAS Constructions Ltd t/a BAS Frames, Companies House 10504807, valid to 11 September 2027. The certificate itself is sent on request for pre-qualification packs, alongside the SMAS Worksafe certificate.

If you need the certificate itself for a pre-qualification pack, or the SMAS Worksafe certificate alongside it, ask us and we will send both the same day.

Credit where it belongs: an accreditation like this is a record of how the team works day to day, not a document produced in an office. Our site teams keep the paperwork straight because they keep the work straight.
