7-Storey SFS Full Build for Croydon Council
In 2021, we successfully completed a 7-storey full build system for Selsdon Contractors, in partnership with Steel Frame Solutions. The project comprised 54 flats built for Croydon Council, replacing seven detached houses near Purley Station. Our scope of work included the SFS full build system, flooring, boarding, breather membrane installation, and brick tie channels. Despite the challenges, the project was delivered within the agreed 4-month timeframe.
Rectifying Inherited Ground Floor Construction Issues
One of the primary challenges arose from inheriting the project after the ground floor had been completed by another contractor. The previous team was unable to manage a project of this scale, leaving numerous issues requiring our immediate attention. As the ground floor is essentially the foundation for steel frame buildings, our team meticulously inspected and rectified incomplete or improperly executed work before resuming construction.
Proving SFS Value and Managing Pandemic Logistics
Vertical lifting operations utilised a crane, significantly improving delivery time and helping maintain the project schedule. Additionally, our team provided hands-on guidance to site agents unfamiliar with steel frame systems, ensuring a smooth construction process. This was particularly important as the contract manager initially expressed scepticism about steel frame construction, preferring traditional methods. Through consistent communication and demonstrating the system’s efficiency, sustainability, and speed, we were able to prove the value of this modern approach.
The project was further complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which required updated method statements, risk assessments, and new collaborative working practices. Despite these challenges, our dedicated team adapted quickly and delivered the project to the highest standard.
Successful Outcome and Future Collaboration
The success of this scheme led the contract manager of Selsdon Contractors to express interest in collaborating on future projects, a testament to the quality and professionalism of our work.
