The 56 Chatfield Road project presented unique challenges compared to other projects like the GAS Depot.
While similar in some ways, it was notably different due to its residential nature, being situated on the picturesque River Thames, and the complexity of adding four additional storeys to an existing building. A small family-owned architectural firm led the design, and given the scale of the project, our team maintained close communication with the company owner.
One of the primary challenges was the limited information available from the architect’s drawings. Much of the construction guidance referred to standard details from manufacturers such as Promat, EOS System, and CP Board manuals. For this particular project we used Frameclad system one of our trusted suppliers. Thanks to our prior experience with similar projects, our team was able to guide the project through both the design and onsite stages, offering solutions where details were lacking.
During our first visit, we identified an issue with the scaffold tie installation that could have led to significant additional costs later in the process. The scaffold ties interfered with the structural steel encasing, which could have caused delays and added expense. By proactively advising the Project Manager, we helped to adjust the design early on, saving our client from costly changes down the line. This showcases how our expertise goes beyond just supplying materials—it’s about adding value through comprehensive project management.
Throughout the project, the lack of communication from both the main architect and the structural steel supplier created challenges. Despite the incomplete design, we managed to deliver the materials on time by taking extra steps. A representative from BAS Frames personally visited the site, measured each floor, and requested cutting lists—all at no extra cost. This dedication ensured that the project adhered to its tight deadlines.
Our strong relationships with suppliers also played a vital role in ensuring the project’s success. Our previous collaboration with ETEX allowed us to arrange a site visit with their representative, who helped us navigate installation details, resulting in additional savings for our client.
The project concluded successfully, and the developer personally expressed their gratitude for our efforts. Furthermore, the Project Manager, who was so impressed with our service, called us for assistance on another project.
